NEW YORK CITY —
Jelly Associates featured in "Design Humor: The Art of Graphic Wit" by Steven Heller

AIn "Design Humor: The Art of Graphic Wit" (Allworth), Amy Unikewicz and Miriam Bossard are featured--in the company of graphic designers Seymour Chwast, Alex Isley, Stefan Sagmeister and others--discussing the virtue of wit and humor in graphic design. Amy and Miriam present Jelly's recent holiday greeting card--a collage with portraits of the partners in hooded dwarf outfits as "Heinzelmaennchen" (fairytale fairies who work in the darkness of the night). The quirky portraits were resurrected for the holiday card after having previously been created for the Swissair Gazette magazine contributors page, to credit Jelly's re-design of the publication. (incidentally, Swissair had refused to print this version of the portraits, requesting something more discrete) Click to view...

"Design Humor" explores what makes wit and humor such important tools in graphic design. Compiling some of the most clever, ironic, and acerbic pieces from annuals, exhibitions, and designer’s drawers, this entertaining sourcebook demonstrates how to communicate effectively through visual puns, type play, and ironic images. It features dozens of classic examples of comical type creations such as Goudy Stout, as well as captivating historical and philosophical references from such "humor experts" as Groucho Marx, Max Eastman, and Mark Twain.

Jelly Associates is a graphic design partnership founded on a creative ideal—to continually explore ways to communicate, engage and delight through design. For more information, visit www.jellyassociates.com, email jelly@jellyassociates.com or phone 212 971 0028.
